  1. 1877-1910. British engineer who joined with
  2. Henry Royce in 1905 to design and produce
  3. cars. Royce trained as a mechanical engineer
  4. at Cambridge, where he developed a passion
  5. for engines of all kinds. After working
  6. initially at the railway works in Crewe, he
  7. set up a business in 1902 as a motor dealer.
  8. Rolls was the first to fly nonstop across the
  9. English Channel and back 1910. Before the
  10. business could flourish he died in a flying
  11. accident. Royce had trained as a mechanical
  12. engineer and worked in railroad production
  13. and as a car dealer before joining up with
  14. Royce. Before the business could flourish he
  15. died in a flying accident.
